Ranger Insurance

Rangers are the front line of protection for wildlife, standing between the poacher and his victim. They are genuinely the unsung heroes of conservation. At present, there are approximately 40,000 rangers across the continent, of which only 1,600 have insurance. It is estimated around 100 rangers are being killed in the line of work each year and many more injured, preventing them from working.

Unlike most industries, there is no compensation for such matters which means when the work stops the salary also stops, as does the provision of food, education, and welfare for the families. The annual insurance cover is as little as USD$50 (HKD$~400) per ranger and will go a long way in giving many rangers the peace of mind they deserve.

Protect our rangers

Our partner charity the Game Rangers Association of Africa hosts a very established rangers accident insurance project.

By becoming a Friend of The Elephant Foundation, you automatically contribute towards the accident insurance of 1 ranger or more.

However, should you wish to donate specifically towards the funding of accidental insurance cover for these unsung heroes, please support ranger insurance.
